The Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management presents a strong instructional foundation for launching and successfully operating a small business venture. The curriculum spans all stages of small business development, from defining an idea to finding and managing your finances to building marketing strategies and managing your operation. This professional certificate’s capstone course teaches you how to finalize your business plan and practice the next steps to executing and managing a successful business. The curriculum is overseen by an advisory board of business entrepreneurs and education leaders and approved by the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. Courses are taught by working professionals with many years of practical business experience.

Required CoursesWe recommend starting with Introduction to Entrepreneurship/Opportunity Recognition. Building, Presenting and Executing a Business Plan must be taken after the successful completion of the prior four required courses.

PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION

There are no prerequisites for the Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, but a bachelor’s degree is recommended.

CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS

The curriculum consists of 5 required courses and 2 units of electives (usually 1 course) for a total of 10 semester units (156 hours of instruction). Candidates must pay a nonrefundable certificate registration fee.

You must take all courses for a letter grade. To receive the certificate, you must maintain an overall minimum 2.5 grade point average, with a grade of C or better in each course. A Certificate with Distinction will be awarded to those who complete the certificate with a GPA of 3.7 or higher. All coursework must be completed within three years of registering for the certificate. Though the certificate is self-paced, by taking two courses per term, you can complete the certificate within three semesters (one year).

HOW TO REGISTER

By registering, you declare your intention to complete the curriculum. To register online for the Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, complete these two steps:

  1. Submit the online registration, and complete your student account profile if you are a new student.
  2. Pay the nonrefundable registration fee through your shopping cart.

You may also send the mail-in registration form with your credit card information or personal check.

You should register for the certificate before you complete your second course in the curriculum.

ESTIMATED COST

Each course is priced individually, and you pay the course fee at the time of enrollment. The certificate has an estimated cost of $4,475 (not including course materials or registration fee). Course fees are subject to change.
